Pre-1960s Mountain Dew Commercial
Thanks to Adrants for pointing us to this Mountain Dew commercial from waaaayyyyyy back yonder. It features a Prohibition-era slogan "Zero Proof Moonshine", and spokes-rube "Billy The Hillbilly".
Great gosh-a-mighty, do times change. (Except when they don't.)

3. This commercial is NOT pre-1960s. The fine print at the end of this commercial clearly reads, "Trademark of PepsiCo, Inc. (c) 1966."
Back in 1964, the Pepsi Cola Company purchased Mountain Dew from a relatively small but very successful soft-drink firm established in Knoxville, Tennessee by brothers Barney and Ally Hartman in the 1940s. "Mountain Dew" was slang in Knoxville for moonshine; Mountain Dew had originally been marketed as a mixer for whiskey before it gained a following as a soft drink to be enjoyed for its own sake.
An artist named John Brichetto created "Willy the Hillbilly" for Mountain Dew's advertisements back in 1948, and bottles of Mountain Dew featured a hillbilly pointing a gun at a tax collector as a piglet sat staring in perplexity at the bottle's beholder.
PepsiCo continued using "Willy the Hillbilly" for Mountain Dew's advertisements until 1970, when the cans and bottles themselves were radically redesigned, and the slogan "It'll tickle yore (sic) innards" was dropped in favor of "Yahoo!" and very soon thereafter, "Hello, sunshine! Hello, Mountain Dew!"

4. Some people like their whiskey.
Some people like their gin.
But a pretty girl and Mountain Dew.
Really gets under my skin.
Because I live in a Mountain World.
My body runs on Mountain Dew pearls.
My mind floats in a Mountain Dew haze.
I look at the world.
Through a Mountain Dew gaze.
A pretty girl and Mountain Dew.
Really gets under my skin.
A pretty girl and Mountain Dew.
Really gets under my skin.

1. I don't understand how the poll results on coke/pepsie vs. soda/pop could possibly be right... I am a flight attendant and serve a lot of that brown stuff and at least 95% of my passengers ask for coke or pepsie NOT soda like the poll reflects.
