California Fire Relief
Thanks to everyone who came out to see me today in Portland! I had a blast and it was great to see you all!
I'm in the airport right now on my way to Orange County and I can't help but think about all of the Californians who have been so affected by the fires in Malibu, LA, Orange County and the San Diego area. I was trying to think of ways to help and after checking out some related charities, I realized that in an emergency situation like this, the best way to help is by donating cash...it's a quick and easy way to make a big difference.
Below I've listed a few links to organizations that are really making a big difference. If you have the ability to help, please do! Thanks!
• American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund: 800-HELP-NOW or 800-257-7575 for Spanish speakers, http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html
And for the poor animals ...
• Los Angeles Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals: 888-SPCA-LA1,

(Page 1)2. Thank you very much for coming to Portland and took a picture with us! We were so happy and thrilled to see you in person! Most of the pictures we've taken got blurred (it's camera's fault!! ha ha) :-( but I got few great shots~ We also are quite sad to see the news everyday about the California fire. We hope the fire will die down soon.
Again, we truly appreciated your visit to Portland, Oregon! "We Will Keep On Cooking!!"
Thanks!

3. Greatings Tyler!
Just wanted to drop you a line to say your show 'Tylers Ultimate' ROCKS and continues to inspire me to cook! Just finihsed watching your episode on Ultimate BBQ ribs and have decided to prepare the entire menu for my family tonight. I've always cooked my BBQ ribs on the BBQ and have had mixed results so I'm hopeful this recipe will prove to be more on the moist side as they looked on your program. In addition, the air quality hasn't been so good outside due to the fires so I'm looking forward to cooking inside for a change.
Wish me luck!

4. Thank You so much for thinking of us here in San Diego. This is the second time we've gone throught this and I must say I live in the best city. I was not in the areas that were affected but I know people who were. Our emergency crews worked so hard. Go Bless our firefighters!I teach and had the week off so I watched all my recorded Tylers Ultimates. You're the best! Once again thanks for thinking of us!

I know you don't have time to answer questions; however I am struggling with a cuple of things in cooking. How do you know if a jar of anchovies is "good"? I have heard you and other chef's say if they are not it can spoil the recipe. How do you fry capers? In olive oil or a dry pan? I looked all over the food tv website and cannot find the answers.
Will you ever do "How to Boil Water" again? I learned quite a bit from that show.
Thank you for your time.

11. Tyler doesn't read the comments page. I would be shocked if he even wrote it. Most of it looks written by a publicist.

13. Actually Tyler does read them. He sent me a message about my post above to my email address. Many times he has his sous chef answer questions here. He also said he does write these blogs.
I can't answer your question about anchovies (I don't eat those blech) but you would fry the capers in olive oil, not a dry pan. Maybe Anthony will be along soon to answer your questions.

14. Kathy,
THANK YOU! You are so sweet to reply. It's nice to hear that Tyler actually does post his own words and comments. I am still surfing the net to figure out the jarred anchovy thing. My mom used the paste in some of her hor dourves, and I swore I would never do that to my family and friends.
Thanks again for your positive feedback.

1. Tyler, thank you so much for thinking of the fire victims in So. California. I have lived here all my life and it is truly the worst disaster I have ever seen here. As you know my sister lost her home and everything in this fire and her family was lucky to escape with their lives. The American Red Cross has done spectacular work down here feeding and housing literally a million people! That is how many people have been evacuated from their homes just here is San Diego. Thank you for all your kindnesses and your wife too.
